Fantasy Football: Key Takeaways from Week 1 of the NFL Preseason

Exclusive to Yahoo Sports.

It’s hard to get too excited about a football preseason game. Especially as they happen on weekend nights during the last days of the summer, Week 1 usually features series from first-team players. Maybe two if we’re lucky. But fantasy players need clarity before mass drafting begins. so i came in Here’s a position-by-position look at how Week 1 flopped. so managers can plan and adjust based on upcoming draft attacks.

defender

The QB job in Houston may still be up for grabs: Rookie CJ Stroud tried hard enough to open the door for Davis Mills to sneak in. Stroud went 2-for-4 for 13 yards and an interception in two series, while Mills lined up 9-99-1 during the period of He’s at the field.

Maybe like even Love drafting Jordan Love as a QB2.: It’s only two series for the Packers QB, but Love is pretty encouraging in that small trailer. He completed 7 of 10 passes for 70 yards and a touchdown. He’s connected with 5 different pass-catchers and is 4-for-5 for 28 yards playing Love’s ADP action (128.1), currently QB24 on Yahoo.

Behind Tua Tagovailoa, it’s still cloudy in Miami: Mike White started for the Dolphins and played the full first half. He led two failed expeditions to the red zone. The first ended with an end zone interception. And once again in the fourth turn that was caught, Skyler Thompson didn’t shine either. By tossing two picks with missed strokes to win the substitute position.

A much-needed step forward for Kenny Pickett looks hopeful.: It’s just one series for the first team attack. But Pickett looked balanced and calm as he went 6-for-7 for 70 yards and a touchdown. Diontae Johnson completed an 11-yard pass to convert to threes and 10s while screening. George Pickens scored 33 yards on third and 8, shooting further Steelers at dismal ADPs.

It’s a no-turnover game for Baker Mayfield: After nine interceptions in 12 practice sessions, the Bucs QB took charge of the Packers Friday night, completing 8-of-9 passes for 63 yards and a 10-yard touchdown.

Don’t ruin that HOF for Bryce Young: It was a rough start for the NFL for the No. 1 pick as he built a 4-21-0 line against the Jets over three series. But he still gets very little help from his offensive line when he hits three out of seven dropbacks.

running back

Viking Ty Chandler Wants RB2 Jobs: After failing to stand out in the camp The sophomore also took advantage of a longer look Thursday night as he rushed for 41 of 11 yards and added 29 yards on four catches in the first half.

It was a solid NFL start for Jahmyr Gibbs.: In his first live performance as a professional The Detroit draft pick made six passes for 19 yards with an additional 18 receiving yards. Gibbs is a strong early-league pick picking cumulative points for receptions with a current ADP of 39.8 as an RB16 on Yahoo.

Deuce (Vaughn) slips away: Deuce Vaughn, a sixth-round pick for Dallas, looked good in his NFL debut. Thanks to his height (5-foot-5), he finished the game with 50 yards on eight carries with three receptions in the NFL. 6 Yards Vaughn’s efforts should push him closer to a backup role behind Tony. More Pollard this season. And he’s basically free to draft right now.

Don’t sleep on Khalil Herbert.: While the Bears RB room is a tough room to explore this offseason, But Herbert came out to play a big role here. On a transfer from Justin Fields on the third and long stroke, the 25-year-old ran 56 yards down the sideline for a touchdown after a stiff arm. Herbert is currently an 11th-round pick in the 10-team league. Position RB36

If Josh Jacobs can hold his ground, the Raiders offense should be fine.: Samir White trained as a substitute for the first team and has had a great outing, rushing for 43 yards and 13 touchdowns. Hopefully we’ll find out more as preseason progresses. But for now, he’s the #1 RB on the depth chart and has an ADP of 131.6.

wide receiver

It was a mixed bag for sophomore Lion Jameson Williams.: as promised Last year’s 12th overall pick received a massive wildcard before a six-game suspension for violating NFL betting policies. Williams was targeted seven times, but only caught two passes for 18 yards, including a pass. Converted 2 points but he also passed the long ball the wrong way. While playing deep play the wrong path again Williams is currently in the 13th qualifying round with an ADP of 126.1.

The Jahan Dotson-Sam Howell connection we predicted seemed to come to fruition.: Howell did well between the two series performances. Finished off with a 26-yard touchdown pass to Dotson. The 23-year-old WR was the guy I wrote about in July’s 15 Second-Year Breakout Players article, and his current ADP of 107.1 is a great value compared to a WR37.

DJ Moore seems excited to be in Chicago.: On quick screen from Justin Fields, Moore sped past several Titans quarterbacks for 62 yards home. Moore’s 2022 ADP slumped a bit at the WR20, but it should fix that after his Chicago debut.

Kicker Yes Kicker

Evan McPherson is also really good.: The sophomore scored four field goals for 38, 51, 39 and 43 yards.

Justin Tucker’s mid-season form is no surprise: It was just a normal 60-yard shot for the man who holds the record for the longest 66 yards.

Rookie Blake Grupe had an interesting night: As the battle with Will Lutz for a job in New Orleans raged through the summer, A new battle for acceptance began on Sunday. After kicking off the game-winning field goal, Grupe was mistaken for a fan by security as he walked out. He tells stories through social media.

injury in game

  • WR Elijah Moore left the field after Cleveland’s opening series with a rib injury. But X-rays are negative.

  • QB Tyler Huntley headed to the locker room with the team doctor early in the fourth quarter with a hamstring adjustment.

  • RB Kendre Miller avoids serious injury with sprained knee
