2023 Cincinnati Open Day Five ATP/WTA/Schedule Preview Includes Alcaraz-Paul, Djokovic-Monfils, Swiatek and Medvedev-Zverev

It’s day five of the 2023 Cincinnati Open (Western & Southern Open), with the last 16 clashing in the order of the day. The schedule has been confirmed, with many top names to adorn the trailer.

Among those were Carlos Alcaraz, Novak Djokovic, Iga Swiatek, Coco Gauff and Jessica Pegula, who were among those who carried on day five.

Starting at Center Court will be Wimbledon champion Marta Vondrousova, who hasn’t received much fanfare when allocated a stadium since winning in London. But it kicks off at Center Court this evening. She faces the Americans, which is probably the main reason Sloane Stephens is waiting for Vondrousova.

Stefanos Tsitsipas followed up on a confrontation with Hubert Hurkacz after dealing with young American star Ben Shelton. Then it was the turn of the main trio.

Carlos Alcaraz was the second week running tackle for Tommy Paul and, in this case, the enigma of the American beating world number one two years in a row in Toronto.

Heading into America with a 2-1 head-to-head record, that was just a mistake, as Miami demonstrated. Or Paul secured Algaraz’s number.

18-year-old Czech talent Linda Noskova is the country’s next top player. After Fondrusova, Karolina Musova, Barbara Krajzikova and, of course, Petra Kvitova, among others.

Access to her first WTA Tour event this season in Adelaide. Since then, she’s had good results, albeit not flashy. not long ago She reached the quarterfinals in Warsaw and followed it up with the finals in Prague before withdrawing in Montreal.

In Cincinnati, she won from qualifying to the round of 16, including head-to-head defeats against Lyudmila Samsonova and Petra Kvitova. Next up is one of the best players on the WTA Tour right now, Coco Gauff.

winning DC. She then lost to eventual champion Jessica Pegula in Montreal and defeated Mayar Sherif in her debut.

Then it was Gael’s turn. Monfils who doesn’t seem to give up. And despite a plagued injury at the start of the week, it appears to be just that. He faced Novak Djokovic in an eye-catching main match.

Despite having a formidable head-to-head record, Djokovic leads 18-0, both 36-year-olds. And back in 2005, Djokovic beat him.

Monfils’ only victory came in F4 Italy in 2004, a stunning record that Djokovic, who escaped injury to Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, hoped to continue.

Perhaps the main entertainment comes from the grandstand. Starting off was an Aleksandr Zverev-Daniel Medvedev tie that upset many after the pair won on Wednesday. It’s a 9-6 head-to-head lead for the latter, who have won their last three meetings since losing the ATP Finals in 2021.

Then it was another familiar meeting as Iga Swiatek fulfilled her wish to play on the second pitch. She said she wanted to stay away from the spotlight so she wouldn’t disrupt her sleeping routine.

She doesn’t play before 1pm, so it’s very likely that it will. Swiatek is 3-0 against the ever-improving 20-year-old.

Jessica Pegula aims to continue her outstanding form and face Marie Buzkova, as well as her compatriot Taylor Fritz, who faces Dusan La. Both Americans, Jovic, are in the best form of their careers right now.

but still Some players will continue to play off the field in the pecking order: Maria Sakkari – Karolina Muchova, Elena Rybakina – Jasmine Paolini and Daria Kasatkina – Aryna Sabalenka.

Next up is Ons Jabeur v Donna Vekic with Stan Wawrinka and Mackenzie McDonald during day five. The quarterfinalists will be confirmed at the end of Thursday. By the final main tournament before the US Open ended.
